Ward 2, Paris, is now the home of the County of Brant’s latest ARU (Additional Residential Unit).
This lovely dwelling in the rear yard of Avery Moore Kloss and Jason Kloss, is the culmination of an original desire to help increase modest dwelling availability in Paris and several months of navigating the municipal process, and of course, many hours of hard work.
More information is available on the County’s information page on ARU’s for anyone else who may be considering a similar project. ARU’s are subject to requirements of the Ontario Building Code, and the couple readily point out that there are several steps involved in getting the necessary approvals, including several thousand dollars worth of “paperwork” costs, aside from the obvious construction costs. Fire Safety, connection to water and Sanitary services, and parking requirements are just some of the details required in providing a final building that passes inspection. However, at the end of the day, this former single car garage is now an absolutely beautiful 240 square foot home.
Our community is in desperate need of new approaches to housing products, particularly in the rental category and I applaud Avery and Jason for having the vision and the perseverance to bring this dwelling to reality.
For those who will immediately ask the question “Is it available?”, Avery and Jason are still contemplating some short term vs long term rental options. Thank you Avery and Jason for the tour, and for sharing your story with me.
