Some food for thought: We had a chance to visit friends at a retirement community in Florida in 2019. This was my first time visiting Florida without kids or a business purpose. I had my eyes opened to the many residential options available for seniors who wish to have a nice, manageable home (or vacation home). The building we visited had 4 floors, 8 units per floor, so 32 dwellings per building. Most were two bedroom units – not large, but nice homes at a reasonable cost. At that time these units were selling for around $120,000, condo fees were $400 monthly and the utilities were an incredible $38 per month. (These figures are all in American dollars).
Residents have access to storage units, an outdoor pool, exercise room and Rec Centre where social events are held. This particular property had 17 of these buildings wrapped around a golf course that is owned by a separate company. So here is my question for you: We will never match those utility costs, (or the golf course) but wouldn’t it be a great idea to encourage our local developers to provide an opportunity for this type of living for the seniors of our community who are ready to downsize, but want to stay in Paris?
