This is the door handle of one of my favourite stores in beautiful Downtown Paris in the County of Brant. This year, John M Hall’s is celebrating their 130th Anniversary, (and the original Thomas Hall Linen business in that building goes back to at least 1862).

This means they were delighting customers in our Downtown before anyone had ever heard of Coca Cola, Harley Davidson, the Ford Motor Company or Betty White!

And while John Granton has obviously not been the proprietor since day one, I can tell you that he is one of the most dedicated merchants in Downtown Paris. Thirty years ago, (when the store was a young 100 years old) I lived in an apartment across the street and John was the first shop owner to arrive, every morning to get an early start on sweeping the sidewalk in front of the store. I can also tell you that in 2021, John applies the same dedication to this wonderful store.
