New Fire Station planning underway for North Paris (Ward 2)

The September 13, 2022 Policy Development and Strategic Direction Committee meeting included a report on the next steps toward the creation of a new Fire Hall for the north part of Paris. The recommended location is the County of Brant Gilbert property on Scott Avenue, east of Grand River Street North (GRSN).

I will continue to support this project.

During the meeting I made a point of asking questions about the timing of this project, especially related to future road construction work that will be done Downtown and on GRSN. Councillor Marc Laferriere had some questions about the design of the station. Please take a few minutes to watch this portion of the meeting (the video starts when the segment begins, at approximately 47 minutes in):

Most people don’t watch our Council meetings and especially don’t watch our Committee meetings, however this video is significant for two reasons:

  1. We discuss details regarding the Fire Hall that is proposed for North Paris
  2. This is one of the last times that Marc Laferriere and I have the opportunity to work together to represent the people of Ward 2. Bittersweet, and I’m sure to be emotional when we get to the very last meeting. Marc, it has been an honour to sit next to you and to work with you. 💙

(And I have to add that watching myself on video is painful, but I’ve learned I will take allergy medication next time! 😁)

The County of Brant has an incredible team of Firefighters in Paris and I’m eager to see this additional Fire Station become a reality.

The recommendations from the Staff Report (RPT-0272-22) are shown below. You can also read the full report.

Report Recommendations include: That a new north Paris Fire Station be added in the northern Paris area, proposed location on the County of Brant Gilbert property on Scott Avenue, and that staff be directed to proceed with an RFP (Request for Proposals) for architectural services
