Based on Steve’s post on his Councillor Ward 2 Facebook, May 17, 2026
I popped into Downtown Paris, Ontario yesterday afternoon (May 16, 2026) for a few items and it was bustling with lots of people enjoying the day. It was great to see local residents and four bus loads of visitors all supporting our downtown businesses.
At a recent Downtown BIA Board meeting there was a discussion about foot traffic and parking lots, and a member of County staff had put together an image that really landed with me.
The map above shows Downtown Paris with an overlay of a typical Costco store (green) and parking lot (orange) (using the London store).
Costco certainly serves its purpose, (those roast chickens are a great deal!) but for day-to-day shopping, I’d rather stay closer to home, park my car anywhere in Downtown Paris and take a walk around to visit our local shops and delicious restaurants. ![]()
Thank you to Erica Grimes, our County of Brant Downtown Construction Liason for providing this eye-opening reference image!
